Machinist


GENERAL SUMMARY JOURNEY LEVEL:
It is the responsibility of the Journey Machinist to operate basic machine tools, perform inspection and maintenance tasks to support the business enterprise in attaining its mission and specific business objectives. These individuals are also responsible for maintaining their work environment, equipment and tools in good working condition, following all safety procedures and guidelines, assisting and instructing peers in the successful completion of their tasks and maintaining all appropriate records. In meeting this charter, these individuals will perform these duties with a high degree of quality consciousness and sensitivity to specification and work method requirements. A high degree of discretion and personal judgment will be used in diagnosing problems; identifying corrective action, scope of task, and selection of work methods; and researching necessary information and equipment to accomplish the required task. Such duties include, but are not limited to, the following essential job functions:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Journey Level Machinist • Knowledge of all machining operations and expertise in CNC or Profile • Working familiarity with shop planning/tooling for majority of PMW jobs • Three years experience at PMW or a similar airframer manufacturing plant • Demonstrated expertise in shop math, blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing • Demonstrated ability to organize, summarize and maintain information/records • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively in a team effort • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize own work • Demonstrated skills in maintaining effective interpersonal relations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Journey Level Certification High School diploma or GED Five or more years of experience in a multi spindle, airframer production job Prior experience/knowledge applicable to fixturing/tooling applications Working knowledge of SPC principles/practices Ability to find, analyze and solve methods/equipment/process problems. Programmer


GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include translating drawings and electronic data into part programs such that geometry a nd labor standards are met, supports machine prove-out activities, coordinates machine / process sequences with Project Engineer, participates in Tool / Fixture design and concepts, develops time/cost estimates on new parts to Sales.

Supports the development of the most efficient manufacturing processes to effectively fabricate production parts. When new business is established, develops and supports those processes to the extent they produce parts that meet or beat the originally established quality and cost estimates before being utilized by production.

Develops and supports the optimization of existing production parts, as well as, the production strategies surrounding our company’s lean initiatives.

Responsible for researching and incorporating, where viable, the latest technological advances in all facets of machining, finishing and assembly technologies so that PMW will be recognized as a leader in shaping and machining complex, close-tolerance metal components and sub-assemblies.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Programming Translation - Translate drawings and electronic data into part programs such that geometry and labor standards are met.
Schedule and Hours Targets - Ensure that part numbers you program are completed such that established schedules are met, and programming and prove-out hours meet estimated budgets as follows:
• Estimating - Assist the engineering department develop estimates with Costimator such that accurate and timely bidding packages for customer RFQ's are created.
• Technological Advances - Know and understand the State-of-Technology in metal machining and Information Technologies, utilizing a GAP analysis matrix, so that a Capital Asset recommendation can be made to the Executive Leadership when required.
• Data Integrity / Data Field Population - Ensure that specified fields have been properly filled in so that systems are able to generate information properly.
Budgets - Keep informed of annual departments budgets such that department financial spending targets are being met • Training - By the start of each fiscal year, assure you have developed plans defined with action items and schedules such that essential job skills are being improved. Plans are in place by July 1 and are completed on schedule.
• Audits - Understand the requirements/procedures as defined in the Programming CAD/CAM manual and the Engineering Procedures manual so that you could answer any audit questions involving said manual.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Capable of utilizing customer drawings and/or solid models and develop CNC programs to produce parts that meet Engineering requirements.

Must possess exceptional measuring and blueprint reading abilities, the ability to analyze dimensional results of prove-outs and effectively correct discrepancies.

Must be able to participate in cross-functional team activities that encompass bid review, engineering plan development, and manufacturing producibility.

Ability to communicate with Union Journey Level personnel to problem solve and make improvements on the shop floor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
7-10 years CNC Programming Experience of 4 and 5 Axis Machining centers

Previous machining experience with hard metals on 4 and 5 axis machines preferred

Working knowledge of metal removal cutting technology required

Experience with Unigraphics a MUST

Modeling/tool design capabilities a plus

Associates Degree or equivalent preferred (IO-P70024060)

Machining Supervisor


GENERAL SUMMARY:
Manages multiple Production Lines over all shifts and supervise Leads. Ensure quality and productivity requirements are satisfied in a most cost-effective manner. This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Adheres to process control procedures, operating instructions and all quality control instructions. Manufactures a quality product safely, with minimal scrap or rework, while meeting customer specifications.

Plans, organizes and supervises all shift operations in accordance with production schedules and requirements of immediate supervisor. Maintains status of production, redeploys resources as required by changing events to maintain production schedule. Sets and communicates expectations for daily production. Provides timely feedback on results.

Works to continually improve the quality and cost of parts produced. Recommends and/or implements planning changes to affect improvement.

Develops, trains and involves employees in maintaining and improving departmental efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, cooperation and morale.

Maintains employee attendance and staffing plans such that adequate staffing exists to meet required production schedules.

Ensures all employees work in a safe manner and that each employee is properly trained in all safety procedures.

Ensures safe manufacture of products, safety in the areas of supervision, enforcement of legal requirements, company policy and maintaining a safe work environment.

Emphasizes accident prevention.

Ensures that throughput is are attained and budget criteria is met or beat.

Acts to insure equipment, tooling, and facilities are maintained ready for use, as needed.

Works with each employee, Shop Stewards and Human Resources to effectively resolve grievances.

Regularly gives necessary performance feedback to employees and conducts formal performance appraisals.

Approves transfers and promotions in accordance with company policies and procedures, the Labor Agreement and with all state and federal laws.

Participates in interviews and hiring decisions regarding employees. Trains and develops Leads to effectively supervise assigned production personnel. Identifies training and development needs and communicates that need to supervisor and Human Resources.

Provides input and assists with the annual budgeting process.

Adheres to budget; meets monthly budget plans. Researches variances to budgets and develops plans of correction with appropriate personnel.

Meets monthly with Leads to resolve issues and strategize plans; resolves significant issues prior to meeting with Director of Manufacturing.

Follows standards for good housekeeping practices and ensures the standards are routinely followed.
